Each rank of Penitence increase the damage bonus by 5% which means if you have 2 players each doing over 200 damage a hit, you have gained more from a rank of penitence than from the +20 damage you get from spirits/weapon buff. On top of that, you get another 5% slow with each rank of penitence along with increased damage (which is handy for taking out runners sometimes). To make penitence even better the +5% affects spells and regular attacks, which the +20 damage doesn't. <

Cast a spell that has a cooldown. Just after the cooldown is up, have someone cast Deep Freeze on you. Notice that the spell you recently cast (which was ready to be cast again before Deep Freeze) now is cooling down. It seems that this occurs with spells that recently cooled down. It seems that the longer the cooldown time of the spell the higher the likelyhood that it'll be affected by Deep Freeze even when it's cooled.
I.e. if I buy Game X from place Digital Distributor Y and they go out of business I can still get support from Steam, Impulse, GamersGate, Direct2Drive, etc. The people who are yelling about Goo and saying "But what happens if X has gone out of business" haven't read up on Goo. Same as the people who are yelling about "but DRM keeps from reselling my game".
I find this slightly misleading, though perhaps I am misinformed about how this works. From e
I suspect everybody and his dog eventually purchases Ashkandor`s Sword.
Actually, I never get artifact items anymore. Generally, the gold to bonus ratio is much higher on regular items and by the time slots become the primary limiting factor I'm at War Rank 8 which means all my gold is going to giants and then to upgrading them. In a very small handful of games I'll eventually get artifact gear but only after the citadel is almost fully upgraded and even then, I usua
Whenever I play the game I still find Generals too unerpowered. Is it just my strategy?
Yes. Oak is probably one of the strongest team demigods and in the hands of a strong player he can easily bring in a win that an extra assassin on that team couldn't have. In groups where teamwork isn't happening then assassins are definately better though. Sedna I would say is the second strongest team-oriented Demigod and Queen is very good at pushing towers ear
Why not just have the AI have a rank? Let the rating system push them down nice and low to where they should be (probably in the low 100s).
You don't know they are there, Regulus could have thrown down more elsewhere which would cause those to disappear.
38 games against skilled players and 1 loss to a newbie is better than 70 wins against skilled players. That being said, the rating and experience system are largly unknown (and bug ridden) at the moment so I wouldn't trust anything much on that page.
Have Regulus on other team throw down some mines. Plant a totem of revelation near the mines. Notice that you can see the mines now. Wait for the totem of revelation to disappear. Notice that you can still see the mines (when they are not in the fog).
I always like to watch intro movies/logos the first time I play a game but after that I hate having to wait to launch the game. Is there a way in Demigod (command line switch, .ini file, etc.) to disable startup movies? I know I can click through them but it wastes time loading the movies only to click through them. I would rather it just show me a black screen until the game is ready to display or something.
I think the IRC solution is fine if it worked. It doesn't work for me and I know I'm not the only one with the problems I'm experiencing. Half of the game is community and with the built-in stuff I don't get any of that. :/ Luckily I'm fairly savvy and know how to get on IRC with other tools but the average player won't.
A number of things. 1) The games you are playing are likely against the AI. The names for AI players are taken from real player names so you see the usual nonsense names in AI matches that you would see in normal internet play. The way you can tell if you are playing a human or an AI is to look at the "Ping" on the scoreboard. A Ping of 0 means AI, a ping of something else means human. 2) The website and game has a large number of bugs, which is why you are s
I have the same problem. I can only chat using a different IRC client (I use mibbit as well). In-game I get 3 copies of my own name in the shift-tab window and nothing else. In Impulse I get connected to irc.stardock.com but never end up in #demigod channel. Sometimes I'll end up in a channel with just Marvin_, other times I get no channel, other times I don't even get connected to irc.stardock.com. /join #demigod doesn't work using Impulse either.
So Goo is nothing new?
Correct. Stardock has been doing the same thing that GOO has been doing for something like 7 years. GOO now allows *other* developers/publishers/distributors do the same thing as they have always done.
I hope that Impusle will continue to sell DRM-free games as much as they can.
For clarity, Impulse does have DRM. All (at least the major ones) Stardock games require activation at install time, just like GOO. GOO is the same DRM Stardock has been using for a while but they are offering it to other developers. What is special about Stardock is that if you buy the game on CD/DVD, it does *not* have any DRM. I don't fully understand why you would
You also completely ignored the fact that Stardock itself isn't using it.
For the sake of clarity, this is not true. They are using it for Elemental and they have required activation-on-install for their past games acquired through Impulse.
More like the first time you want to use your car but Frogboy hasn't really stated when GOO phone home. Sure it happens the first time, when entering the e-mail and serial id, but I don't see any mention about latter runs. But since Frogboy is adept of one time activation and due to item in the Gamer's Bill of Right about playing single player game without being required to be online, I doubt that GOO phone home every time it runs
This is correct, it will only
May be I am wrong but isn't the GOO scheme (not the code the scheme) sounds too easy to crack ? I mean fake the activation server or just change the authentication DLL and all the GOO destributed games are "wild open" at once. Am I wrong ?
Every DRM system is crackable, even hardware driven ones. If there is code and an end-user can run that code, someone will figure out a way to run that code whenever/wherever they want. It is impossible to
It opens the door to gamers being able to resell their games because users can voluntarily disable their game access and transfer their license ownership to another user.
Can you go into some details on how this works? You have indicated that any distributor (Impulse, Steam, Direct2Drive, etc.) can authenticate a product but the fact that someone can disable their access indicates that there is a central repository of licenses. Perhaps I'm misunderstanding,
Any user who doesn't seen Goo as a good thing should go away and never come back because they're nuts.
GOO is a good thing relative to what is out there. But so is getting hit in the head with a whiffle bat instead of being hit in the head with an aluminum bat. I would rather not get hit in the head at all, though if I have to make a choice I'll choose the whiffle bat over the aluminum bat.
The game will have disc-based copy protection
Does this mean no digital download of The Sims 3? If not then I'm not buying it. If there is a digital download without any DRM and only a CD-Key then I'll likely buy it just to support DRM-free gaming (and The Sims can be fun for short periods of time).
4 regs = 1000 damage sniping from camp
Rank 1 Snipe is over 500 damage at max range, so it's actually 2000 damage at rank 1 which is enough to kill several classes. Of course, you have to be at max range which means not up front gaining XP so that can hurt.
A TB can deal 1000 from one shot, then combo 800 + stun + 2100 damage... thats 3900 damage combo
An Ice TB needs to get into regular range to pull this off (can't do it from safety) and at level 15
It's my understanding that GOO is going into Elemental. I don't have a source as I don't remember where I read it so I could be mistaken. Perhaps it's as a proof of concept for other publishers, in which case that's just good business strategy (even if it causes the loss of a few anti-DRM customers). If it's because of some expectation that DRM does any good or serves any real purpose though then boo to Stardock.
