No offense Mercury but you've been saying that for months. We get it.
None taken, Frogboy. And yes, I had the feeling that my criticism was seen as if it's in the spirit of the above post. It wasn't. I suggested postponing release date in Beta. I wrote in an early email that I have no intentions of asking for refund whatever happens, out of respect for GPG. And after the release I said my op

Just came back from a trip abroad 2 days ago. Power up my pc, catching up on some mail. Impulse quicklaunch icon says there is update to Demigod. Ok. I open Impulse and try to update Demigod. Says it needs to update Impulse first. Ok. I download the Impulse update. Error at the end of download. And you know, I'm just not going to mail tech support again. Enough is enough. Uninstalled. Going to greener pastures. There are greener pastures,
I can't connect either, but assuming 70% can ( = ~ 70,000 players ), it's still weird they don't.
Frogboy says sales near 100K, and that most can connect. This is a multiplayer game, no one would buy it just to play the non-existent single player. When I log in I see 10-15 open games, typically. Maybe twice that number ongoing games. Say 200 players at any given time -> maybe total 2000-4000 active players at all times. Doesn't seem to add up.
Update : When I try to join, I am quickly connected to the host but stuck on "waiting to connect" to everyone else. When hosting, I am shown connected to those trying to join, but their info shows stuck on waiting to connect to me. I forwarded ports 6000-6200. Couldn't play until May 11. played May 11 - 15.
Couldn't play until the May 11 patch. Played several games. The first May 15 patch made all other players appear as "PlayerName" in connectivity info pop-up and prevented any connection. The 2nd patch of that day just eliminated connection to the NAT facilitator.
Could play some after Monday's ( May 11 ) patch. Here is what I get after last patch ( May 15 ) : And no connection, of course.
First ever except one day in Beta between 2 patches in the same day, some 2 months ago. Both were 2v2. One went smooth, one lag-stutter throughout ( though pings looked ok, ~250 ). One I hosted, the other - joined. both no favor. I have forwarded 6000-6200 on my router. So, at least for me, this is an improvement. I read some players here saying for them it got worse. Hope it's an improvement overall. Not there yet as I wouldn't want to play 40 min lag games, and I suspect 3v3 or higher
Done. Get some rest guys :) Cheers !
I run Impulse. Impulse downloads Impulse update. When 100% downloaded I get error updating Impulse. The Impulse screen appears, but with no option to update Demigod. Also, Demigod still won't run normally from Demigod.exe, only from the stub file. Therefor, of course, won't launch from Impulse or from GameRanger.
For the record : My post and entire thread ( 2-3 pages ) "Postpone release date" from beta ( around March 20 ) was deleted. I didn't make a big deal out of it as I consider that post and others as feedback, advice maybe. Take it or leave it as you will. But the deletion could be interpreted, well, non-flatteringly. Another post after the release, that I posted in General, and where I claimed the game was released inadequate, was moved to "Demigod Ideas".
Ok, got it thx. I've installed and re-installed windows many times before. I just like clear instructions : )
ok, let me try to describe this foolproof : go to "My Games" tab. right-click on the game. select "archive application". repeat for all games in the list ( 2 games, in my case ) ( btw, it's been archiving 15 mins now and 25% done ). save all .impulse files . Re-install windows. copy the .impulse files back to somewhere on drice c: ( doesn't matter where ? ). activate impulse ( how do I activate impulse after re-install ? is the impulse program also in one of t
If I want to re-install windows, what do I have to back up in my direct-purchased games ( Demigod and Sins ) so I can install them later ? or do I need to re-download them anyway ?
Well, I disagree to some extent, as I wrote in several posts / replies. Anyway, get some rest guys. U can't fix anything if u can't think, and often you don't know you're too tired until you're properly rested. This will take weeks to sort out and bring to a satisfactory problem-free status, all told. So no use pushing ahead like it's just a few more days. Ease up, take good weekends off. Cheers :)
To create a completely new map you will need one better two 3D artists, 2 texturers, a scripter, someone familiar with the map editor and someone with experience for effects. If you settle for a map based on an existing map and reuse the background and a bunch of textures, it will be a lot easier. This could be done in a realistic timeframe with 3 or 4 dedicated modders.
Thanks Col.
This turns out to be an interesting experience, apart from the game itself : ) I hear you man, and I appreciate the transparency. As I see it, what you said so far still doesn't clear the decision to release the game. By professional standards, troublesome as it could be with distribution considerations, Demigod should not have been released. 1. You say that with in your lab ( ~100 testers ) it worked flawlessly. OK. You say that with the Beta
The maps for Demigod I remember being told were hideously expensive.
How can they be more expensive than, say, DoW2 maps ? Terrain is completely non-reactive and flat 2-D, while in DoW2 almost everything is destructible, including explosions that make pits in the groud and create new cover points, and there are staircases allowing combat between varying heights. Just creating a static ( though more beautiful ) model viewable in 3-d sh
If not in budget numbers, then in comparison to games such as SupCom and DoW2. Just wondering. I remember reading somewhere someone from Stardock, maybe Brad, saying a single demigod costs 100k$ to make.
Game won't launch from shortcut or bin/demigod.exe. Tried deleting sig.bin and re-typing the email and serial, worked one time and repeat problem. Tried running from DemigodStub.exe, got error pop-up about Direct3D, tried again, worked for once. Some other issue will probably come up. Of course, multiplayer doesn't work anyway. I do have stuff to do other than trying to work around various issues of this game. I'll wait a few weeks before trying to play again. This is not the

Because they moved it out of General ? ... So, now IGN review is out. 7.5, because of connectivity. Sometimes there is some satisfaction in "told you so". Should have postponed the damned release date. This is not one of those times. Just too bad.
Ah, Jordan fan ? Too bad what happened to him... the books up to the 5th were great, and downhill from there. [e digicons]:')[/e]
Yesterday I read a reply by Stardock's Israri that seemed to me quite outrageous :
There aren't "bugs" in connection code as much as it needs to be identify players whose routers are too difficult to traverse. We are working on updates in the coming days that will give players more control over the connection in games.
I wrote a reply but decided to cool down on it for a while, which turned out well since the thread was
