Also bear in mind part of the reason why LoL and HoN's rosters are so large is because I could doodle a character concept of equal quality in about 10 minutes.
What point are you trying to make here? That a plurality of gamers prefer a larger number of simpler characters, and that's a bad thing? In before the thread-lock hammer falls. I'm playin' LoL as well and having a blast with so many champions, items, and strategies to try out. My early to mid game is fine, but still gettin' stomped in mid to late.

Pretty sure it'll be 1.2 because of security concerns expressed in prior postings from SD. Makes sense. A malicious mod could do a lot of damage, and the blame would fall on SD/GPG.
[22:49] Frogboy|Home: The connections work, 9 out of 10 times people disconnect because they see they didn't get the map or mode or players they wanted.
This is truth. Ditch pantheon and skirmish, and add options to custom games so that they can support/satisfy both teams and PUGs. Just go look at HoN match-making, that's the best I've seen yet.

Agree. I would consider match-making a design element. And the underlying connection architecture (peer-to-peer vs. client-server) is also a design element. Albeit one that, when working correctly, is transparent to the user. The first could be fixed, though it's not trivial, so resource/funding constraints will probably prevent it. The second is too fundamental and ain't changing, taking 5v5 and large maps off the table. Beyond match-making and connect

Just kill it and start working on DG II, with many (x3) lessons learned from this attempt. Tried my first LoL game last night. I think the match-making needs work to meet the new standard set by HoN. Got a beta invite for LoL yesterday, so will try it out shortly. I've gotten in a number of HoN games, and can't say enough about the match-making capabilities. I'm not very far along the learning curve in terms of heroes and items, but am finding that the pace of movement and combat is a bit quick for me (i.e., it's real easy to get killed and wonder what just happened). In Demigod, you can see a situation unfold more slowly and react accordingly. Maybe I just need

Are random teams going to be supported? Proper statistics tracking and in-game access to them is the true solution to the balanced teams problem, but randomized teams should be a relatively easy interim solution to implement for PUGs.

I'm assuming their capture radii overlap in that spot. On Exile, some demigods (*cough* TB *cough*) can sit across the gap from their ho

I played a game earlier tonight, and the Reg did some stuff I'd only seen once before in over 200+ games. First thing was that he was able to snipe towers. I'm not talking about shooting at them from just out of range, but actually sniping them from across the map. I don't play Reg so don't know if he's always been able to do this and most players don't bother to. The other was being able to snipe behind lines well after losing visual on the target and not being ta

Shouldn't take more than oh, 2 or 3 months to get corrected now that you've provided the specifics of the bug. *ducks* the thread lock hammer.

Myself and others have mentioned this before, but until custom games support the separation of organized team games and PUGs, the stats are still fairly meaningless. I think even Frogboy realized this with his earlier suggestion on a tweak to the Connections window that would help identifying organized teams. Randomized teams are another option, though that can lead to teams with duplicate demigods, which not everyone likes.

Well, you can look at it as destructive bashing for not having the features to begin with, or as constructive criticism for what needs to be improved. It's not encouraging to hear that new screens (and maps) are too expensive to produce, because that implies no changes are forthcoming to the dismal matchmaking. It's all academic anyway, because the community is too small now for proper matchmaking to make a difference. DG should probably just be shelved, and DG II initia

Thanks to Obbeskrutt, I got an HoN beta key and tried a couple of games last night. First impressions of the main lobby and matchmaking were fantastic. There were over 18,000 people online and hundreds of open games to choose from. The filtering options made it easy to screen them all down to the couple of dozen noob games I was looking for. Chat and friend lists are also conveniently located on the same screen. Game options included leaver screening as well.&n

Frogboy confirmed that there are no new maps in the pipeline because they are "very expensive" to create. I'm assuming the animations for the demigods and their skills are also more complex, and thus expensive, than what is seen in these other DoTA inpsired games. So by creating an engine capable of such

Well, no new info whatsoever on the status of v1.2... I can only assume all resources are being poured into the two new demigods so that there's something to show at PAX. Some positive press is desperately needed, and it'd be a sensible business decision. It's just a shame the exisitng (but rapidly dwindling) community keeps getting shafted in the process. I closed Demigod, reopened it, and again got an empty lobby. Came back to the forums, refreshed my account, tried again, and it worked. So something (DB or otherwise) is thrashing at Stardock.
