Okay - found a solution to this problem: (1) Create a new forum posting account (don't put your real name anywhere in there) (2) Go to the metaverse section and click "Register your player" (3) For "Player Name" put in the nick for the new, anonymous forum account you created in Step (1), and put your game serial number where it asks for it (4) When a game ends, use your new Player Name and put the e-mail address used to register that new name. This will a

The changes to the review are up -- he added a bunch to the "intelligence and difficulty" section and upped the score for that section (but didn't change the final score). I very much doubt Brad will be very happy with the changes... The reviewer is demonstrating the same sort of double-talk he did the in thread, at one point describing the AI as "astounding" but at most other points arguing, pretty much as he did before, that the AI has an "unfair advantage" over the player...
Something tells me Brad won't be writing too many more Avault developer articles from now on... (that'd be a shame - there's some interesting stuff in those articles about the gaming industry, ideas about non-copyprotection ways of combating piracy, etc)
I posted this in another thread on this topic, but since this seems to be the popular "gamesdomain.com review!" thread: Is it just me or did they review the beta version? (The first screen shot in the review is a shot of the set up screen for the beta; one of their big negatives is "no tutorial mode" when the final version has just such a mode right on the start up screen, etc)

I e-mailed [email protected] a couple of days ago asking them to remove my real name from metaverse/board postings. They haven't responded. >:( >:( >:(
I don't know where they are pulling my name from - but the only place I put it was when signing up for drengin.net. If someone could tell me how I could change it so that my real name doesn't appear when posting here or on the metaverse (so it would be like Mythor's account), I would be very grateful. Internet gamers have come to expect a particular level of privacy and anonymity - even if these are based in nothing more than paranoid fears or vague feelings, I see no reason why Stardo
To get this thread back on topic: is there any chance we'll be seeing a privacy option any time soon? I have never heard of a game forum or online game requiring players to divulge their real names to all their fellow players. There could potentially be a lot of people who are going to be upset with this when they find out their personal info is being made public in this way.
on the front page of gamespot.com right now they're advertising the galciv review with this text: "Find out what makes Stardock's space empire game superior to Master of Orion III in our review." :)
Add an option so people who submit metaverse scores (or post here for that matter) don't have to disclose their real names. See this thread: http://www.galciv.com/forum.asp?BID=GF&id=24783
I agree - I really don't like posting my real name publicly on the internet, and have created this account (click on my name to see what I mean) just to post messages. There really should be an option to not disclose your real name when submitting metaverse scores or when posting here.
I'm finding chat about as unhelpful and unresponsive as this board has been for the last few hours. I want to make sure that my system is not permanently damaged as a result of this. Are these 3 files (listed under the XP solution) the ONLY files deleted? OR are they just the bare minimum one needs to boot properly, leaving your system missing important files that might be needed in the future? And I'd still like to know if System Restore will fix the problem, as it seems it
I have WinXP - I think I have this problem (don't see any files in C:\). The above solution looks somewhat confusing (for one, it tells us to copy something from the A:\ without ever telling us what disk should be put in there in the first place!) Will WinXP's System Restore solve this problem? If so, I think I'd rather do that (seems like it would have a better chance of putting my machine exactly like it was before the mass deletions).
Is this a problem for everyone or just for a small number of people? I've got WinXP - I'm going to try not to reboot and wait for some fix for this problem to be released...
The version released by "FairLight" claims to be the full version PLUS the bonus material that is going to be released on the 26th. Is that the one that turned out to be the beta?
Actually, the best way to help the developer if that's your primary goal is probably to buy the $69.95 drengin.net subscription (you get GalCiv + a bunch of older Stardock games + any other games Stardock makes in the next year). I think I read that you don't get sent the CD if you purchase it this way. If you simply buy the $45 GalCiv game direct from Stardock, they still send you the full boxed version, just as if you bought it in a store (which means the publisher, Strategy First, p
Heard the name while I was reading up on moo3 right before its release (in some random forum). But I didn't really start looking at GalCiv seriously until after discovering that moo3 was a huge disappointment... (if moo3 had been an awesome follow up to moo2, I might never have bothered looking into GalCiv... :p)
Cool - so it sounds like this is something that will likely be addressed in the expansion packs Stardock has planned..? :)
It'd be nice to have a greater number of tech advances that result in more substantive changes/additions to the gameplay. Most techs now simply give bonuses to some statistic (or allow you to build something that gives those bonuses), instead of affecting gameplay in a more hands-on way. For example, when I saw "Transporters" (or "Teleporters" - I don't remember which) come up on the tech tree, I thought researching that might lead to ships being able to teleport from one planet to the next (I
The potential for confusion (like Oolon's), is the reason I wrote my "spruce up drengin.net" thread. Here: http://www.galciv.com/forum.asp?BID=GF&id=18337 I think it's especially important to have clear, simple descriptions about drengin.net and direct download since it's such a new and innovative idea - people will be confused because it's a way of distributing games that they aren't familiar with.
A few things I've noticed on that site that could use some improvement (especially since GalCiv's big release is fast approaching, and there will likely be a deluge of new potential customers showing up here): (1) There's nothing right on the front page that really explains how drengin.net works - when I first discovered it about a week ago, I had to look through several different pages/sites (including reading several posts on this forum) before I started to understand what drengin.net
Go to www.drengin.net - click the 'Buy It!' button next to "Drengin.net ($69.95) (Includes The Corporate Machine, Stellar Frontier, GalCiv, & more)" - once you input all your credit card info, then you'll be able to download the game manager software.
I think if you pay the $69.99 drengin.net fee, you don't get a boxed version and can only download (I might be wrong here). Given all your other posts on this, I would recommend you go and buy it right now - at worst, you'll be able to play other drengin.net games while you wait for GalCiv's download date (and there's still an offhand possibility you'll be able to get the GalCiv beta, despite official protestations to the contrary - just make sure to use the DGM software and not the newer SC on
you might want to check out my post in the "Can I get the beta today by buying Drengin.net?" topic... (of course, they may have fixed that in the last 24 hours)
I just bought Drengin.net last night (~12 hours ago), and am now happily playing the GalCiv beta! :D (Although you can't download it using the newer Stardock Central software, you can (as of 12 hours ago) using the Drengin Game Manager - and when you first sign up for drengin.net, the software link they give you is to the DGM!) If you want the beta, you had best purchase drengin.net quickly - the company clearly doesn't want people downloading it anymore and will probably fix this soon...
