I went from 3rd to 4th place when Weyrleader decided to become whole again. Guess what? No former third place medal. If I would quit and drop to 26, I would get a former top 25 medal but like I said, I have never seen a former number 1, 2, or 3 medal properly bestowed. Has anyone else? And, no, it's not a big deal. Usually people drop when they quit playing and so they don't notice anyway. But, it would be kind of cool if it worked. Greldon, Ray the Wanderer, Free Tibet, and ot

I never have seen a former first, second, or third place legitimately bestowed upon a former top 3 ranked player. Instead, this previous number 3 medal pops up seemingly at random. The "former top 25" medal seems to work just like Darth Kryo has. As a general rule . . .the metaverse never works perfectly - sometimes you don't get credit for a game and the total game count is seldom correct. But it works well enough to keep some of us interested. Have fun and enjoy the medal. :)

And yes, if you don't get it in the first time, try again. I have had to use more than one attempt to submit games because the metaverse or Internet connection can fail. Also you may want to check and make sure your game is recorded on your profile. Recently I forgot to do that and deleted a 60k game that never got recorded. Oh well. Big deal. 99% of submissions work fine. But, it is best to remember to check before overwriting your next EndGameSave. LOL

I am glad the recalc finally happened. For the metaverse to be fair and fun, it should treat all of us the same way. Thanks for fixing the bugs. For some grasp of "metaverse inflation", I kept track of my progress over many months. I held 3rd place for the first time in the fall of 2003 with a score of 172,407 in 60 games (hardly believable now). IIRC correctly, Ray the Wanderer was in first and Free Tibet (only one of her names) was in second. I lost third place with a score of 483,48

Yes, you have control. On the intro page where you choose political party, etc. is the winning conditions box in the right lower corner. You have to check which victory conditions you want by clicking on the box. If no boxes are filled, then victory is by military only. I haven't played this way in a while but a total culture flip also or used to count as a military victory. Have fun. :) [Message Edited]
is there something that allows u to download people's playing styles
Technician has a good one that you can vary so you can play military or cultural instead of alliance. You can also look under the strategies part of the forum, which is how many of us learned. A fun thing about Gal Civ is you can win several different ways and get random maps. You can play campaigns if you choose. You can also play empires and metaverse, which is unique. I don't play as fast as

I play gigantic maso. Populists with +1 speed and maximum allowable Diplomacy is my favorite. On medium and smaller maps, speed is less important but maxing diplo always is my top priority. Good luck. :) [Message Edited]

Military, Gigantic, Maso is the big point magnet and almost guarantees you will hit the 60k cap to get the metaverse score up there fast. Rare habitability means less time per game so more games and more scores. Tight clusters means less chance of having the AI culture flip you on maso so tight is a little easier than loose in my opinion. Playing to max our points is OK but don't forget to just have fun so you end up playing more often. :)

jab, here is some information off of the Fellowship of the Ring website. Stop by the Fellowship thread in Empires http://www.galciv.com/forum.asp?BID=GE&id=130294#148550 and say hi sometime. :) ----- One of the most frequently requested items is "How in the heck is the scoring done in Galactic Civilizations?" Well, here is as close as we can come to an answer: Difficulty Level: The base score is based on the intelligence of the various computer players. This makes

I have enjoyed playing good, evil, and neutral. They are all a little different so check them all out over due time. From a strategic point of view, the benefits of good (more likely to exchange trade, a trade booster wonder, trade centers planet improvement, more likely to ally, and immunity to the fundamentalists minor AI) may lend a benefit over the entire galaxy. The evil choice may lend a benefit mostly on one planet in the galaxy (like a nice big PQ boost) and actually ca

Jab, in addition to the above, consider: 1. Diplo picks in the begining. I like populist party with maxed out diplo and +1 speed on gigantic maps. Speed is less important on medium and smaller maps. 2. Get Diplomatic Translators asap. Build your planets up with Soil, Habitat, Manufacturing Capital and maybe a Fusion Plant & Manufacturing center if you can. Then make DT your first trade good (tg) you make and don't give it away - ever. Or if someone else makes it first, then fin

The planet question is up for grabs. Different folks play different ways. PQ 14 and up have no maintenance fee so grab them first. Save the 14 until last because the AI usually wait a long time to grab those. For PQ 10 to 13, I only grab those when I need the range extension because you pay 5 bc/ turn maint. You can build those up but even with improvements they drag my morale down so I have to cut spending to maintain 100% morale (and the pop bonus that goes with 100% morale).

I am rusty at this. Mostly now play culture flip & terror star. Try to use an alpha strike if possible where you wipe out the AI opponent in one turn so they cannot retaliate. Get the AI to go to war against someone else so they send all their combat ships away from their now relatively unguarded home planets. Swoop in with enough combat ships (frigates and capital ships) to destory the few defenders or battleaxes left defending their home planets. Then overwhelm them

Andreas, some say maso on 1.19 and 1.2 versions is harder than suicidal (7 major incredible AI) on 1.49 or AP. Some say the 7 are easier than 5 because trade is more robust and there is less chance of one major AI dominating the game. 1.9 maso is harder than previous versions because of logistics, stingy Alexians, and no influence point gift bonus. Some report bugs, so beware of any "upgrade". I think I am going to wait for AP to upgrade but you may get your most "nightmarish"

jab, here is a venerable old Strategy Guide. Although written for 1.05, there are lots of goodies here: http://www.orionsector.com/pages/galciv/downloads/The_Unofficial_GalCiv_Strategy_Guide_v1_0.pdf These are all great suggestions by excellent players. Paul, great to see you posting again. Also don't build up your military unless you intend to use it. Paying maintenance on ships that sit and collect dust is expensive. As per the above you have to minimize costs (b
It's certainly interesting - however there IS a strategy at this level to pull scores just short of 60k in an hour or so....
And by looking at Alex's profile I imagine Alex is quite accomplished at this strategy. LOL. Alex could you give us link or walk-through? Thanks. :)
