Learning to keep the AI off your back when you have a weaker military is a key part of moving up the difficulty chain. You can do it diplomatically by using their strenght against them. Rather than giving them things as gifts - look for a strong civ and bribe it to declare war on a civ that slightly weaker, or a couple of weak civs. You want to civ you're bribing to get into a war that will result in a stalemate. I frequently have anyone with a strong military

Congratulations, Snark! Just wanted to say thanks to KP and the rest of you for all of the tips/hints on the GalCore. I'm not executing anywhere near well enough for a million point game - but by focusing solely on my economy and using the spin control center to keep the AIs off my back, I went from a 11 K 5x5 win to a 29.5 5x5 win. By the middle of the game, I was running all tech. I could have optimized my planets much more - and while
Is culture flipping planets viable on suicidal?
Just popping in to say 'hello.' I'm glad I did - this seems like a lively place. Thanks for the welcome!
Thanks for the help. Posted two games this weekend, I haven't had any additional problems - I just retire in the first couple of rounds to make sure the game will submit before playing it out. I am amazed by those that can beat this game at Sucidial on the largest galaxy sizes. In my small (5x5) Suicidal game, I carefully avoided war and still had to settle for a technology victory to avoid being destroyed by the Drath. I ended up having to bribe them to destroy thos
Thanks for the welcome! I'm going to start another metaverse game soon and see what happens. I'm enjoying the campaign at apocalypse right now on 'crippling' so it's a good way to work up the difficulty levels. After a rough start, I have the dreadlords bottled up in the upper right hand corner - and they're seemingly on the defense as my allies are sending a constant flow of ships up there. I am allied with the Drath and the Korx in addition to my te
Hello, I just starting playing Galactic Civ 2 - I played the original for very long time so I'm used to submitting games to the Metaverse. I started a Metaverse game and won it today -- and when I got my score the game just exited as if I were playing a non-Metaverse game. I reloaded the end game save game and tried several more times - and nothing seemed to happen. I read about people getting connection errors - but I'm not even getting that or anytype of screen t
Good to see some familiar faces... the GC2 runs much better on my desktop. If I can finally kick my WOW addiction - I'll start posting some scores. I missed you guys...
Cypher Pax returning for duty, formerly of the Special Forces and GROSS. I'm currently downloading the demo, and assuming it runs acceptably on my laptop I'll be back in business with the real thing... What's up with empires in this game? The forums seem much more subdued... are the rivalaries still there? Any wombat, pengiun, koala, or other ANZAC fauna sightings? Cheers!
I iz here for the big day!
By the way, what are the empire rules I keep hearing about? Since SF doesn't recruit on other threads I sort of tuned the whole thing out...
I'm partial to threadzilla - can other empires bump it?
I usually only grab a 13 or 14 if I want to mount a cultural attack - they seem to be a drag on the economy in the early game, and I haven't found it useful to start a new world later in the game when it's easier to simply conquer a system I want.... Is it just me or there more cultural resistance in AP? Before I could culture flip without cultural bases. Now it takes a while to even flip the Alexians... just curious. ~SDC~
Cari- I noticed an interesting glitch. I was playing with cultural victory on - and I just got the message that I would win in 12 more turns. The same turn I attacked the Yor. After that, the game CTD the following turn - no matter what I did. Interestingly enough - I had a previous save for a few turns prior (before the Cultural Victory message) and it started to CTD the next turn. I tried both autosave and previous autosave - same thing. Luckily, the rem
I can't seem to save a game during a caimpaign. When I try, it doesn't seem to persist. If I return to the main menu, I can continue the caimpaign from the last autosave. However, if I exit the game and come back, I am forced to start at scenario 1. Is this the design? I don't think I'd have enough time to play through nine scenarios in a sitting. I'd be interested in seeing how they play out - though they seem inconsistent in difficultly. Scenario 1 is very diff
Bam-Bam, I have a pregnant wife whose upset about my gaming time -- I'd like to play but I think I'd better sit out for now. (:( -Cypher ~SDC~
I don't know how my situation relates to yours as I tend to play medium maps. I have generally eliminated 2-3 majors before they can build capital ships... survey ship / corvette rush is a favorite of mine if I can pull it off. I've found that to win militarily on the higher difficulties, I need to jump someone, perhaps a major and a minor early. The high pop growth is a necessary, but it won't help as much as you think because you use a lot of your population loading them o
Actually, you can use this to your advantage. The AI will often not launch a transport unless it see it as undefended.. I've found that by leaving a defender or corvette on a planet and then rushing a ship after the attacking ships is out of range, I can avoid having AIs come with transports. A word of warning: the AI will sometimes launch groups of offensive ships and transports.... if which case my strategy is to try and seperate the ships - offensive ships will often ungroup to chas
I don't like the DK maintenance - I'm noticed that maso AIs tend to start researching REALLY slowing once they start cranking out Death Knights.... so I like when they build them. I love AMMs and I've never seen the AI use them....
I think the map portion stopped updating in November - that's when I followed Pontius' advice. ;) ~SDC~
I like this thread better - welcome back Gerakken! ~SDC~
I think that once you can explore a part of space, you should be able to 1. Retain the location of a resource 2. Keep it in sight and know who owns it. Non Terror Star, Starbases don't move - so I don't think it would be hard for a galactic civilization to keep track of a fixed point in space, regardless of who owns it.. Cypher ~SDC~
Oldgamster, It seems to me that the Fellowship ran a game of the month this summer where the intent was to not kill anyone unless absolutely necessary and every alliance therefore earned points. You might want to do a search on game of the month, or ask Ray or Vincible. It was an interesting concept... -Cypher
Aaberg - I'm sure the 60k was earned. I commented on it, because they has been speculation in the past if a 60k huge was possible and it was decided it was not. I think it'll be interesting to see how the new difficulty pans out.... I'd agree that the biggest threat to a maso player is a runaway UI. Two more may have the same effect as when the minors were expanding - each major was individually less of a threat. -Cypher ~SDC~
Here's a vote for Ray.... #1 is a special accomplishment. ~SDC~
