If it requires me to join....or in any way affiliates me with another group of people...or has the word "Empire" in it.... Then it's an Empire in all but name (a Star Democracy?). I thought I was already part of the "independent players". What do you call an independant player who doesn't join the independant players empire? :D

Very late in the game I'd have an "emergency defence" design - basically a battleship (not a titan) which mounted one stellar converter, maybe one or two other guns if I had the space and shield enhancing/repair techs. They were throwaway ships that I could rush-buy a load of because they were so cheap, in case I suddenly spotted an enemy attack fleet on its way. They were my "Suicide Class" battleships :D

I don't think this is the right place to ask, but I don't know where else to post it. How does Drengin.net work for developers? Some people suggested that I could ask Stardock to use drengin.net to distribute a game I'm writing. It's maybe not the right kind of game as it's entirely online but I thought I'd ask in case :)

GC does suffer from something in this regard (I just had it today) - 100 Altarian Corvettes trying to take down one dreadnought. As they had difficulty damaging it, it took quite some time for 70-odd attacks to be resolved (I happened to have the screen in the sector where this was happening).

I had a blue star that I colonised with one cruddy planet (PQ14), that I upgraded to PQ18. A little while later, I checked it. It had a few million population (no more than 120mil), and an influence nearly as high as my home system with its 3 planets (one of which was PQ26) and 13 billion population! It's not like the planet had many culture increasing modules or anything, and was quite a distance from any of my other systems.

OK, dug out a few old articles on Venusian terraforming. The lack of a magnetic field on Venus is not necessarily a problem. Assuming the atmosphere could be transformed into an Earth-like one, it should provide sufficient shielding from radiation - Earth's would, even in the absence of the Van Allen belts. I only had that event once, and never had it again after updating to 1.13... (:( If we humans were to ever look to terraform a planet, Venus would probably be a better candidate than Mars. If you could somehow reverse the greenhouse effect, perhaps through CO2 consuming bacteria (although my biology is spotty at best, someone else could correct my theory here), Venus would be much more hospitable to long-term human habitation, just through the factor of surface gravity alone. I've seen this before as well, except that it was the Arceans vs a minor race. Once the Arceans had destroyed the minor's fleet, they just sort of floated around, destroying any minor ships as they were built. So I gave the minor a few Avatars to bolster their military :D

Do you actually mean visible light, or do you mean energy? Jupiter does radiate more energy than it receives, normally thought to be because gravitational compression is heating up the core. There is another theory though that the core is composed of radioactive materials which, under the conditions under Jupiter's atmosphere, causes nuclear *fission* (not fusion). [Message Edited]

Hmm. For Jupiter to qualify as a brown dwarf, it would need to be capable of deuterium fission, and that would require it to be at least 12 times more massive. I don't think there is enough matter in the rest of the Solar System put together to make that the case, even including the EK belt and Oort cloud.
