I like the idea of AI demigods that replace dropped players not providing gold/XP. Any opinions on that?
Frogboy
The priests and angels have been significantly tweaked in terms of gold and XP in v1.1 according to the update notes. I haven't checked it out myself. We'll know tomorrow.
GPG is investigating it why some people are experiencing that. Anyway, we've gone off topic so I'm closing this. Not to mention, a top selling PC game having people argue that it might be dying because there's fewer games open in the lobby since the connectivity got fixed makes my head hurt. Before the connectivity got fixed, there were lots of open games because it took forever for a game to get started. Now, people jump into custom games. The met
I am saying that all forums I've been on developers will stop reading them if the signal to noise ratio gets beyond a certain threshold. That's all. I can't speak for GPG other than saying I am in constant contact with them. Right now, they're focusing on finishing of v1.1 and the demo. We are discussing the additional demigods with them on a daily basis as well.
Actually we plan to release a ton of stuff to help with modding. :)
This is an age old debate though. There are bugs and there are features. Someone saying you shouldn't get gold from killing an AI Demigod. My advice is to try to use some precision in what features you want versus what is actually a "bug". It's not like I am coding on the game so it's not a matter of being defensive about "my code" here. I'm just saying that what I've seen over the years is that when game communities (and each one is different) star
Well said HuntR_. I wish I could persaude people better to see what I see: We are trying to expand a new genre on the PC. The strategy game genre on the PC has not evolved very much over the past few years. DotA helped popularize a new concept and these new games are the vanguard of a whole new type of game that is good for all the games. To put it another way, it would be like people who play Team Fortress being worried about Left 4 Dead. In the end, they ar
What things do you think need to be "fixed" as opposed to things you wish would be added? The only issue that I'm aware of that needs to be addressed is the problem in pantheon where players will quit when they see who they are playing and leave the remaining players with unbalanced teams. That will take some doing obviously but other than that, I'm not aware of any serious "bugs" or "handicaps" in the game. This has got to be the first time I've seen a top 10 best selling gam
I've asked them to turn off the beta server data report page since people keep using it to make these obnoxious posts.
I can assure you, I've been in contact with GPG on a daily basis, even on weekends, on these very concerns. It's probably worth its own blog but a lot of people don't realize that Stardock's business model is atypical in the game industry. Ironclad, the developer of Sins of a Solar Empire, shares our view. That view being that games can generate revenue in the long-term. Galactic Civilizations II, released 3 years ago, still makes millions of dollars each year beca
This is a pretty ridiculous post given that the last journal entry is only a couple days old and we're only a few days from the release of v1.1.
Err....Are you insinuating that I haven't bought Demigod? Because, as a matter of fact, I have. I've bought GalCiv 2 as well, for what that's worth.
I wasn't referring to you. :) I don't think people realize thought that game developers and publishers aren't cut throat. I always see these Steam vs. Impulse threads, for instance, where people don't realize that we play each others games. Someone buying Leage of Legends isn't a lost sale. &n
I mean, will I be able to decrease the amount of LoDing if I have a faster computer and larger, higher-res monitor, or even turn it off entirely.
There is nothing to turn off. Frame rate determines when it switches to the next quality level. I took these screenshots on a Thinkpad T60. Not exactly a top of the line machine. :)
I'd love a beta key!
Without data, there's no way we can "fix" the problem you refer to. Who is your ISP? What type of router do you have? What kind of software security features? At this stage, it's very uncommon for us to find anyone who has problems connecting. So we need as much information as you can give us. There is no error message that says "you just got boned". :)
Just as a note: When an admin views a post it displays on our side whether the person has purchased/registered Demigod. If League of Legends is unstoppable then I would imagine its advocates wouldn't need to promote it in comments on the Demigod forums. Know what I mean, Somaz? I for one look forward to League of Legends. Incidentally, there is another Dota type game in development that looks very good too though its name escapes me. I find it odd, e
It is definitely an issue that we have made GPG aware of and we are looking at the problem closely to see what solutions are possible in a reasonable amount of time.
Persumably though we can run the demo alongside the full version?
I think so. I haven't tried it personally.
You know, I think this is the first time anyone, and that includes the beta phase, has said the game needs a "save game" feature.
vilger: If you're having connectivity problems at this point, you need to look at your own setup. I am not aware of anyone having any problems at this point. I'm not sur what you're even talking about. As for how well the game is doing in the EU, I can't speak to that as that is Atari. Opengames.aspx only displays the # of people on the server that we used during the beta. There several such servers.
alve does one thing other developers don't really do; ga
I know this may sound like heresy but if you don't like Pantheon then, well, don't play it. As a practical matter, there is not a lot we can do to keep people who drop out of a game as soon as they discover what map or who they are playing with. While I look forward to the day that I can send goons over to people's houses to rough them up for being obnoxious, that time has not yet come. Statistically, if you end up in a 3 vs. 2 game or a 2 vs 1 game it's because
Hey - frogboy. I've seen huge improvements. Honestly, I felt like something SHOULD HAVE be done when the 50% off coupon went out. But everything else has been gravy. My only complaint is that if a coupon is said to be offered during X week, that it will be. The 20% off coupon went out late (promised what - 2 weeks ago?) which, of course, leads me to believe that any promise I hear should be taken with a grain of salt. From your
Busdude, that's really not true. There are plenty of people in the Demigod community who, by themselves, could take on 3 players (we've seen it). But the system won't allow more than 3 v. 2. That said, there ARE other things that cause it to be 3 v 2 than the match up. For instance, if someone drops at just the right time, you can end up with that situation. The problem with the system is some of the assumptions made. IMO, we (Stardock/GPG) had some breathtak
I'm not aware of any significant issues with Demigod at this point. The most recent connectivity update has pretty much, in my view, made it bullet proof. As for coupons lost, in 99% of cases the coupons weren't lost but rather got filtered out via spam filters and such. The difficulty in putting out such broad ranged coupons (20% off EVERYTHING) is that it requires the buy in of a LOT of third parties for obvious reasons so we're somewhat limited in how long we can offe
As the coupon mentioned, there will be others.
