Sins of a Solar Empire has Demigod journals in it.

Most PC games are client/server. That is, someone creates a game and others join that game. The data then goes from you to the host (the server) and then back to the other players. Sins of a Solar Empire is client/server. In Demigod, it is peer-to-peer. This was necessary because it needed to have the least amount of latency possible since your moves are directly sent to the other players rather than to a server first. Because the action in Demigod focuses a great deal on
Whichever Demigod Flurus happens to choose in that game is the one that is overpowered.
EVERY Demigod is overpowered. On the IRC channel, there are arguments every day over which Demigod is "overpowered". Rook, Unclean Beast, Regulus, Sedna, Queen of Thorns, Torch Bearer. (though the vampire lord is probably the one everyone agrees isn't "overpowered"). In my experience, what is overpowered is the demigod that defeats you.
This is an interesting topic. According to Gamestats, it's in the top 5 "most talked about" games: http://www.gamestats.com/objects/903/903770/index.html But in an age with only 1 paper-based PC gaming publication in the US, a good question is, where do people now go to "get hyped"?
Demigod has fog of war. It's one of the options.
I would wait until a demo is released and play then and decide whether the game appeals to you both in terms of fun and how well it works on your computer. By then, you will be able to purchase it from multiple sources too.
I don't like someone else (read a game designer) forcing me to view the map a certain way. That's one of the reasons why I love strategic zoom.
You're both right. It's not necessarily supposed to have it be even number teams. But we are also battling with a bug where the game is rejecting AI players being inserted so you end up with too few AI Players.
Next time someone argues that Demigod involves "no skill" please refer them to this post. :)
I have a freezing issue? not sure if this is common with most people, but every minute or so the game freezes for about 5seconds and then continues? it becomes quite frustrating as teh game turns into a very stop start action? or am I just doing something wrong??
We're seeing it too. Not every 5 seconds but pretty regularly.
But yeah, if we could get away with a 2d world in this day and age (reviewers would burnus alive) we probably would.
Depends on how you define 2D world. Without strategic zoom, these games would be a micro-management nightmare. I can't imagine making a strategy game without strategic zoom.
Just a note: Released version will have friends lists and private friends chatting that's always available (even in-game).
DalzK: Mike and I are trying to get that in. Just have to get engineering approval to get it into day 0.
I don't think so. Casuals will usually have already moved on to another game by the time an expansion comes out. They're much less likely to go out and buy them, especially after the first expansion. Plus, once a game has released an expansion it's much more difficult to get anybody with only "casual" interest in the game to buy it because they're likely to feel like it's a larger investment (need to buy original + expansion[s]).
That's actually not tr
We have beta 3F now up. But on Thursday, everything's going to get zapped. It'll say there's a new version (or worse, it'll just be deactivated). We're going to try to work things out so that beta testers get the game a day early for release (there are some legal issues we have to sort through with the retailers but we want to give the beta people some added benefit for all their help).
It's all on the backend. The only changes you'll likely see is a couple messed up dialogs. :) But we do have skirmish.
We just released Beta 3F of Demigod to the public. A few important things to note: 1. This build comes off the Beta branch. So this isn't some "near gold" 2. It has a changed connectivity dialog that we're in the process of getting rid of. 3. The new Skirmish matchmaking is in this build but has not really been tested yet so it'll be hit and miss. 4. There's a bug in the lobby where the slots are all messed up looking. It's fixed in the main branc
Right now I get about 300 kB/sec with Verizon 3G on my computer and with my Comcast I get about 24 mB/sec.
In the long-run, you'll have plenty of options because you'll have 3G (and soon 4G) options, your cable company of course, and others will come in if there's a market. Right now, the problem is that the cable companies business model has fallen apart. For years, they sold $50 cable modem connections knowing that 90% of their users were using trivial amounts of bandwidth per month (some surfing, email). But not anymore. Now people have game consoles, streaming netfl
In preparation for the release, the beta version of Demigod will cease to work around April 7th. So there will be about 7 days of no availability. :)
In terms of accounts, there's around 4 million Impulse "accounts" but that's a meaningless statistic.
So seems we ARE getting a ballance patch and seeing GPG people dont like working on weekends, Id say we got high chanses of the patch arriving this evening.
We're working this weekend. :) No balance changes in this beta. We're purely testing out multiplayer stuff.
It's not going to happen today. Internal testing. We're looking at tomorrow now (Saturday).
In the future, Stardock games will migrate to using ImpulseReactor where preferences will be stored virtually too so you'll have options.
