I don't know if this is a bug or some kind of incompatibility in my own software or if I've got a weird hardware problem. But it SEEMS to be related to Galciv, since the problem only occurs when I'm RUNNING Galciv. And it seems to be related to the metaverse code. Last night when I finished a game, I tried to enter the results and Galciv locked up. I could not even terminate Galciv from the task manager, the task simply would not respond, even though other tasks seemed to be operatin

1.05.068 is very unstable here. The governor is unusable (crashes immediately) and the program crashes capriciously during play if you govern manually. ~SDC~
Is there any way to download and install just the deleted files? A full reinstallation can take quite a while, even on my fast cable connection. I hate to think what it will do to people with dialups. :HOT: ~SDC~
OKAY, so the forum won't let me post the debug.err file. I have a long file here that complains chronically of an error in line 397 of MWIN.CPP. It was written out when the game (1.04a.062) crashed to the desktop after I killed the third space monster with my latest overlord.
Bug. I'm running SDC now and down in the right hand corner it says "Not logged in" with a little icon of a comuputer with a white x on a red circle on it. Running my cursor over this produces the message that "Dave Oldridge has been successfully logged into Stardock.net" Seems to me there is some inconsistency here! LOL
I can deal with a single file on a resumable server, but more practical would be the same file on about 3 different servers. Getright can actually pull parts of it over three different connections and since my incoming bandwidth here is around 500kb/sec that's a plus, since most servers out there are too busy to actually deliver that fast. That way I'd be able to download the whole business in a bit over 10 min. But the fact is, two or more connections to a single server will often im
OK, so I didn't put the new multimedia pack in. I'm downloading it now......we'll see how the movies and events go then....
Here's three that I noticed: The movies are still giving "blocky" sound on my slow old K6-III+ 450. A couple of the event screens have double minus signs in the listed alternatives. The graphic for the Battle Axe is still only showing the tiny icon, not the view of the ship.
Let's face it, none of US are going to go to the store and buy it on release date unless as a gift for someone else!
Believe me, nobody else has built it. At least if they did, they did it without the required tech.
I see that Evolution Control is supposed to permit the building of this improvement, but it is not in the improvements file. Presumably it improves the planet class. But how much does it cost, how much is its maintenance and how big is the improvement?
I just finished a game where, for a very long time I had a huge income and I built up a huge surplus, then gradually, as my fleet changed from battle cruisers to battleships, then dreadnoughts and finally overlords, the maintenance costs built up into a budget deficit of around 3000bc per month. Not a big deal since by the time it got that big I still had nearly 200,000bc in the bank (don't ask!). I just let the game play out with no taxes and deficit spending. But when I got to the end game
Hey, if they're too rude, make them a counter-offer they can't refuse. If that doesn't stop them, knock off a couple of their systems and THEN make them a counter-offer they can't refuse! I mean sometimes stupidity is just fatal...
The AI still seems to know where resources are without scouting them. My improvements file is missing the entry for the "Terraformer" (which Evolution Control says you can build). The program is still crashing to desktop quite often when the attempt is made to submit the score to the metaverse.
I do find that the AI's seem to be at an initial advantage, which is why I go for rapid tech development and build trade goods. I LEASE those for the cash to max out my economy, drop taxes to zero and run at a large profit until I can afford to buy even more constructors. I don't have to demand everything, just bargain for a good lease and a win is pretty easy at AVERAGE level. The AI is getting tougher, though. It took me to almost the last tech to win in a 4x4 galaxy just now!
Thanks, admiral! (saluting). LOL
I sent one of these to Cari already, but I only mentioned the changing the ship's complement in passing. Turns out that's what causes the bug all right. I had thought it was colonizing the third planet that was causing it, but it turns out you're right...it's changing the number of colonists that breaks it.
This seems to ALWAYS happen when I try to colonize a third planet in any system.
See my message about them in 5C. The actual pictures aren't too bad, it's the sound pulsing that makes the motion jerks extremely noticeable.
Win 2K Pro.
The movies are still jerky. Looking closely, it's the sound for the movie that's the real problem here, the movie is tolerably smooth but the sound is coming in bursts that coincide with the tiny jerks in the picture (must be bouncing off the same timer). That creates the impression of a really jerky movie. For what it's worth, the animation of the arriving ship in the opening screen is glass-smooth. But not the opening doors. I just had a CTD when I tried to colonize a class 14 pla
THe movies are still jerky in 5B....there is still something that has happened since about 4Z that causes this, as they used to be smooth. I realize my system is slow (K6-III+ 450) but they DID work at one time...
spatial rifts needs to have a capital S to be consistent (in the tech menu). And if Hienlein is supposed to be named after a certain famous author, then it's Heinlein. I fixed it in my own tech and stars files....but you might consider fixing the distributions.
It has a very gratifying effect on neighbouring planets of other civs that are wavering towards defecting, though!
Yep....that seems to fit with what I'm seeing sometimes....though this game it's been all Yor color with the Yor still active and holding several planets (it was the Arceans who folded). (And the Torians who are the big competition).
