What do you do when you can’t seem to win, but you can’t seem to lose either? ;) I’m currently in year 2202 of a small galaxy and essentially stuck between a rock and a hard place. The evil Drengin Empire are at war with everybody, including me. They’ve succeeded in taking a good number of worlds from the Altarians, who are only hanging on because both the Yor and the Torians have surrendered to them rather than the Drengin. I’ve been selling technologies left and right to pay

Geez I'm an idiot. Sorry about that :)
Don't know if this is a bug or a suggestion, but here it goes. I dislike how the music drops out when the planet screen is up. It's disconcerting to be grooving along to the music - which is quite good - and suddenly have quiet.
Any chance Stardock could put a link to this board on the home page? I'd like to be able to read it when I'm not on stardock central. Apologies if this has already been asked. ~SDC~
That Actiontrip review is kinda silly. Everyone is entitlted to their opinion, but he really took a lot of points off for graphics. He seems to conclude that since the game is based on an OS/2 game, the graphics aren't as good as some 3D games today. quote... "Since this a remake of an ancient OS/2 strategy, we didn't expect to encounter any ground-breaking and jaw-dropping GeForce-powered real-time 3D action." You would think he might have came to this conclusion based o
One could argue that it's "pushing the envelope" in AI, one of the least advanced elements in all of gaming, as far as I'm concerned. It's the main reason I was interested.
there ya go. Thanks for the clarification Easty.
Okay, so, here we go. I managed to get it working with the help of stardock's own bagginz (or more accurately, he got it to work with me only providing the occasional nuisance ;) ). First and foremost, the "download and archive" option is having a problem with restoring. They are working on the issue. The straight install shouldn’t be having a problem, but one could arise if you’ve switched between download servers – this appears to be the case for me. Anyhow,
Also, for what it's worth, UNLIKE the problems with the 99b build of sdcentral, the file it's failing on this time does NOT change. It has been the InvTacti_ file every time I tried.
Hooray!! (err, well sort of. Sorry man, but at least I'm not alone (:( )
Positive. I even reinstalled it to make sure. From my history.txt file: 0.99c.145 [Build 2 / RC1] ----- Brad, I'd be more than willing to zip up my directory structure and send it over to you (I did a similar thing with Nakor last night) and/or provide you with any other information. Let me know here or just find me on #galciv (I'm there now).
minor correction: Here is the error as reported by sdcentral. I mistakenly pasted the end of the file in my message just above... -- [Installation] --------------------------------------------------- Loading: E:\Stardock\SDCentral\temp\gc1.xml Result: Success Extract File: E:\Stardock\SDCentral\temp\Base\Data\invasiontactics\CoreTactics.InvTacti_ Result: Failed (file not found) Installation aborted (failed)
Unfortuntely, no, if I do a regular install it does NOT work. I left it running a regular install overnight and the same error ocurred. To reiterate, I am running Stardock Central RC1. The base install of galciv is working, as is the bonus pack. The multimedia STILL FAILS and reports the following error in the log file -- [Installation] --------------------------------------------------- Loading: E:\Stardock\SDCentral\temp\gc1.xml Result: Success Loading: E:\S
Update on my situation: Looks like it doesn't fix the problem, or at least, not completely. After installing the multimedia I closed the SDCentral app, then reopened it later only to learn that it no longer recognized galciv - or any of it's components - as installed. Reinstall from archive didn't work, so I was forced to download and install EVERYTHING again, only to have it fail on a "deleted file" in the multimedia pack, as before. So basically, RC1 doesn't fix the problem.
Good news. Just like Carl, updating to RC1 fixed the problem for me. Granted, I had to download the entire multimedia package again as it didn't work on the existing archive, but it's working now. That's the important part. Thanks for the help
Jeremy, I don't know if this will help you, but 71.5 million minutes from now, when your done with the first download, you may want to switch your server to "US-Califonia" ( TOOLS-SETTINGS-CONNECTION), then refresh your application data (under the TOOLS menu again). The cali server is running pretty fast right now.
Forgot to mention. I am re-downloading the multimedia again with hopes it will work now that I've got the RC candidate installed. I will post an update here once it's done - I've got 206 minutes to go (:(
I installed the RC1 over the existing version - it appeared to install successfully. However, when I tried to restore the archive of my already downloaded multimedia, I received the following message: Multimedia 1.01.029 is currently installed. Are you sure you want to install Multimedia 1.0.004? After clicking "Yes" I get the message There was an eror installing Multimedia. The following error occurred: Loading: E:\SDCEntral\installed\gc1.xml Result: Succ
Just an FYI that similar problems have been reported in this thread (including by me) http://www.galciv.com/forum.asp?BID=GF&id=23954&MaxReplies=
As of now, no cure. The same problem is referred to here. http://www.galciv.com/forum.asp?BID=GF&id=23356&MaxReplies= No support people seem to be around in the chat rooms, so I'm just waiting and hoping to hear something new. You may wish to contact support at [email protected]
Well, mine is failing on the multimedia install. It failed once with the galciv main program, but then a partial re-download and install worked. The multimedia install fails as described in my post above. I'm running Win2K Pro w/ SDCentral and Galciv installed on a 33 gig NTFS partition, with 9. gigs free.
I had the same problem, regardless of whether I archived or just "installed", though I learned quickly that it's much wiser to archive (I'm surprised this isn't the default). Anyhow, the error was always the same, but the extracted file often changed. Extract File: E:\Games\SDCentral\temp\Mod_Multimedia\movies\5_trade01.bi_ Result: Failed (deleted file) Installation aborted (failed) Anyhow, good luck on the download. I hope you have better luck than me.
Hi. I'm having a problem installing the multimedia. I'm running SDCentral Ver: 0.99b.141 I was able to download the galciv main application. When I attempt to install I get the following (from the log file) Extract File: E:\Games\SDCentral\temp\Mod_Multimedia\movies\5_trade01.bi_ Result: Failed (deleted file) Installation aborted (failed) The exact file it fails on changes every time, but I the error doesn't. Any ideas? I'm in #galciv right
you know what? Check that, I'm looking at a print preview of the manual now and it looks better than I had expected. My mistake. This should suffice. Sorry. One more question: How different is this manual from the one that's coming with the game?
I'm sure this one has been covered somewhere along the line, so allow me to apologize in advance for my ignorance. The manual that's currently available doesn't format well for printing. Is there going to be a more printer-friendly version? If so, any chance we'll get it before the 26th? I ask because I'd love to read through the entire thing now and be ready to go on release night.
