the lack of a multi player demo is.
Well, given the current state of MP for this game, I think it is safe to state that SD choice of waiting after release before making a demo was restropectively a wise one. How people would have reacted if they had a demo with the day 0 networking code ?
Peace Phoenix
On the General and Off-topic boards the rules can remain as they are.
One must not forget that what ends in off topic forums can be on topic on others Stardock sites. (like the Elemental dev journal forum), unless is a true off topic forum for all stardock sites ;)
Client-Server games with thousands of players on a single server can be much more difficult to troubleshoot.
Sadly, Demigod is a P2P game. So Stardock servers don't see exchanged packets during the game. In the case of servers used as proxy for some people, that is another thing.
By the time we’re done, there will have been nearly a 100% transfusion of Stardock Impulse code into this connectivity system
Will you still have licensed library for networking stuff or not after that?
I am grateful that they are working on fixing the game, however it doesn't help anyone to release a patch that has not been thoroughly tested....
Sadly, the some current problems with multiplayer are linked with the fact that it doesn't scale well with lots of user. So it can be thoroughly tested with 100 people and fail completly with 10 000 users. And the only way to have this stress test is to made the patch available to public. A beta patch can only che
the size of the download should be displayed in the bottom right of Impulse
Ooops. Should be bottom left on the update tab. It should display the size of the whole game and the size of the update.
yeah i know where it shows the size, and its 1.8gb
Could you provide a screenshot to double check that you don't look at the wrong place?
I am wondering: how are you sure Impulse want to download the whole game and not just updating it? In the update tab, the size of the download should be displayed in the bottom right of Impulse when selecting a game to be updated.
anything are there not some IT professionals or networking company, consultants or something of that nature that for a nominal fee could come in and fix the multiplayer?
From reading Frogboy's various threads about fixing multiplayer, I am under the impression that the problem is more identifying the roots of the multiplayer problems. And that requires a good understanding of the underlying design, especially if you are trying to fix it without having to recreate every
The problem is he cant log in at all, and when he tries it forces him to download the entire game again.
Has his PC the correct registries entries ? If you have only copied the games files, that is the problem.
Is the e-mail on your paypal account the same than the one on your Impulse account?
EDIT: just saw the changes, they are reasonable
For the unaware, the planned changes are available in reply #72 in this thread http://forums.demigodthegame.com/351530/page/3/#2199625
i've used other programs with DRM and when downloading patches didn't work then tech support provided a link for a direct download. This has NOT happened with this company.
Since Impulse updates only the required files, there is no packaged update available for patching from retail version. that is also the reason why updates can be made fastly available. BTW, Impulse anywhere http://anywhere.impulsedriven.com/<
really wish the devs would allow mulitpule accounts on same IP address. after all we DID buy the game. Why not put prices up by 5% to cover the ability to use it on 2 or more PCS
Are you asking for one serial id being usable for 2 simultaneous online games? BTW, the serial id isn't really linked with your IP but more with your e-mail. And you can already install the game on multiple PCs. But there can be only one online with Stardock servers.
I tried to copy the Program files folder to the other pc's. It asks for the cd key and the game runs when i run the exe. but when i click to play multiplayer the game tells me i have to download an update,
The version isn't in the copied files but in the registry. Using the archive feature will also save the registry information. BTW, the generated archive may be OS dependant.
You know that having a bunch of users pounding on the new layer will not only bring an improved experience to more players (and thus increaase overall DG Karma), it will also speed up identification of remaining issues. Unless you think it's possible things could get worse (hard to imagine, tbh), it seems like a no-brainer.
Not to mention that some people are waiting for fixing the favor item bug. Showing progress on all sides can be useful ...
Well, since you have entered his e-mail for the gift, his e-mail is linked with his serial. So he just need to do a serial id lookup based on his e-mail, to have the serial id e-maild to him. Try this page https://www.stardock.com/support/ with his e-mail.
When your serial id is resgistered to your e-mail, you can download the game for you whole life time. You can even loose your serial id, crash your computer. That doesn't matter since the fact you own the game is registred on Stardock servers
It's $50 in the UK...
Is the download only version (which is available at impulse for 40$) or are you buying from an american web site with shipping and handling cost?
So basically, it's the same as it always was, correct?
Let me see: GC2: retail version without any copy protection. Activation since update V1.1. Sins of a Solar Empire: retail version witout any copy protection. Downloadable patch (without any activation) available until v1.05. Later patch availble only with Impulse Demigod: retail version without any copy protection. Patch available only with Impulse, even the 0-day patch. So it is
You must be doing something wrong. I bought Sins in December and activated it through Impulse once. Since then I've installed Sins on at least 3 of my laptops and computers. Have never had to 'reactivate' anything. Just installed Impulse, logged in and installed.
No, he is right. If you copy files or use Impulse anywhere, you will see than an activation is required. But that activation is transparently handled when using Impulse to download/update games.
. I'm sure Frogboy will have some time *cough* to respond to their questions about GOO.
After reading the thread on Prism, they may think that Elemental uses GOO because Brad told that Elemental will implement a functionnality available with GOO, the ability to have used license. This is point #2 in that thread http://forums.demigodthegame.com/344320 and could be read as using GOO in Elemental to achieve th
I am perharps mistaken, but it looks like that the problem with Demigod is linked to the following facts: - the retail copy is copy free. - there was a 0-day patch available at launch requiring registration of the serial id, and it can be associated with only one e-mail. - in order to choose suceesfully Internet in the Demigod menu, you need to have the latest available version - the retail version was programmed to check if updates were available as soon
I consider Ironclad's Demigod
Gas Powered Games is the developper behind Demigod. Ironclad is the one behind Sins of a Solar empire. Both are published by Stardock.
When does this lag appear? Have you updated to the latest available version?
Well for the record i never once tried to connect to the normal servers so I wasn't adding to the network problem
Sadly, the retail version was programmed to check for available updates as launch, before you can choose which kind of game you want to play.
