It's astounding how Gamestop totally fucked over the release of this game.
Well, things would have surely been different if the game checks for update after having choosen the Internet multiplayer setting and an account ...
Peace Phoenix
No. However there are some server calls that happen even if you're not logged into multiplayer, and as I understand it those calls from the 120,000 pirates were bringing the gateway server that everything went through to its knees.
sadly, as the pirated copies won't be updated and since they are using the same code than legit retail copies, it will be hard to remove the pirate calls without annoying the legit customer with their brand new, non updated copy.
There is two different issue here, there is a world of difference between having to connect online only when you want to update the game, like that was the case, and still is for now, for GalCiv and Sins, and being forced to connect online to reactivate you games everytime you change or upgrade your computer.
Well, since version 1.1, Galciv 2 has activation. But it is only needed if you reinstall the game or the OS.
I'm sorry to say you would have saved yourself a whole lotta grief by buying the game from within Impulse
Well, the OP stated :
Bought the E game (no box) on official site. Paid though paypal
There shouldn't have been any difference from buying within the Impulse client or through the website.
i don't think there is much piracy for multiplayer.
Well, if you read the patch that have been recently released, you will see that the retail version will check for update when launched. BTW, it is a nice way to keep stats about number of non registred copies ;)
Since another update is available http://forums.demigodthegame.com/346928 what does Impulse now says?
Because I can play on hamachi without problems, but whenever I try to play online on Pantheon nothing is working?
As a legitimate user can use Hamachi, I don't really see your point: I still don't see how the pirate version works better than the legitimate one.
Have you patched to the latest version? Who knows, maybe the update check at launch was the problem.
I didn't see any patch notes, and see no mention of what it corrects. Could somebody point me to the correct info?
See http://forums.demigodthegame.com/346928
Well, that is true: you can play the game from the retail version, without the CD in the drive and don't need to connect to Internet in order to play it. Now, if you want to update your game or want to play multiplayer on Stardock server, there is another story.
If i buy the retail dvd of Demigod, and i don't have internet access*, then i'm stuck with 1.0 version of the game forever. Does this seems fair to you, for a DRM "free" product?
Well, ther
Eliminated check for update on launching the game
I hope you will remember this problem for future games. BTW, this means also that people wanting to play single player game were affected by server overload.
The beta testers should have tested the system which included activating, registering and updating the game.
Well, there wasn't any beta that was requiring receiving a CD by mail ... BTW, if there are some problem with duplicate retail keys, no beta test can find it.
Frog dont take it to person i am just sick of all the games being shiped anymore unfinish and untested been lied to so many times by devs as well.
Well, since the problem since to have 140 k people accessing the game, I don't really know how they could have tested that before shipping the game.
I dont understand this at all, you need a cdkey to play online how are 120k pirates even able to login to tie up stuff
Well, if the game try to connect to stardock servers before you can choose what kind of game you want to play (singleplayer or multiplayer), you have a problem. And it is not like if warez version will be patched to connect to Internet only when needed ...
I have uninstalled the game and impulse as well. I still cant login though.
I guess you have reinstalled the game after uninstalling it, right? How have you done so?
Now all the warez copies are pinging a nonexistent address.
Saddly, until registration is made and game patched, there is no way to differentiate a warez copy from a legit retail one.
Have you checked this post http://forums.demigodthegame.com/346099 ?
you get horrific results such as the game being incredibly unresponsive due to simple web service calls
When thoses web services calls are made in the warez/retail version? Before or after clicking on multiplayer? I think that one particular item in the Gamer's Bill of Rights, which is the ability to play single player without requiring to connect to internet should be rewritten this way: - don't connect to Internet UNLESS required, even if available.</p
Move the update check to when someone clicks on the multiplayer tab, instead of when they first load up the game
Sadly, that won't reduce the problem with 100 000 warez copies that aren't updated trying to connect on Stardock servers ....
Hum, as legitimate owner, I think it's worth complaining that's the pirated version of the game works better than the bought one.
How can you say that the pirated version works better than the bought one? Especially since there isn't any DRM in the pirated version (nothing to crack)
But isn't it kinda odd that a game JUST RELEASED has SO MANY serial numbers previously regged???
Everything can happen, like printing 2 times a bunch of serial id on stickers ....
I sincerely hope that you are joking/exagerating
Well, if his serial id has already been registred by another person, Stardock needs to be sure that he is a rightful owner of that serial id.
Have you read this article http://forums.demigodthegame.com/345345 ? It explains in paragraph 2 why they have no choice than using P2P for multiplayer.
If you want to access directly to stardock staff, you should send an e-mail to BTW, even if you can't order on an Internet store, that doesn't mean that you won't be able to find a way with the Stardock's sales department to see how you can order the game from them and how it can be shipped to your house.
Internet buying is a bit immposible, eaven if I somehow manage it, downloading 2.4-3.0 gb is REALY IMPOSIBLE, 'couse every ISP here has an dl limit on their's services, so the game would cost me about 200 euros...thats my monthly paycheck(btw that aint funny;))
Well, you can order the game with the box from stardock.
