Well as someone who played WoW largely solo against bots, I don't think Evan's example is necessarily a good one. Calling computer controlled units "bots" would be like saying Galactic Civilizations is just playing against bots (which is technically true). I know I find the single player tournament enjoyable. For me, single player is important because multiplayer is usually against anonymous strangers. Demigod will do a lot to rectify the things about multiplayer

I'm going to go ahead and lock the thread since it has long stopped being remotely about the original topic. As for the flames, we don't tend to have a very high tolerance for insulting other people. Debate the issues, not the people.

It's never a good idea to compare two unreleased games. I remember when Sword of the Stars was being compared to Sins of a Solar Empire. The development teams on both games even once worked together and on the surface both games seemed similar. But it's in execution that games end up being very different from one another.
Well the single player will consist of exactly the same game as you would play in multiplayer, only against AI players with a few cutscenes. The single player will pretty much be a training for you to begin participating against others online.
That's like saying Sins of a Solar Empire is just training for multiplayer. Demigod has a pretty good single player component. You have both a single player skirmish as well as a sin

We have a gamma, just not a public one. We've never done public gammas. Too close to release.

I think we can also agree that in Galactic Civilizations is inferior to Master of Orion in the sense that Master of Orion has features that Galactic Civilizations does not. That Galactic Civilizations has features Master of Orion does not is irrelevant. By the same token, the concepts and features that Demigod has that DotA does not are also irrelevant. The only thing that matters are the things Dota has... And Sins of a Solar Empire is an abject failure for the obvious
So you are not going to fix it? You're statement isn't clear. Just because I will be taken away and I am making what is in your opinion a frivolous complaint, does not imply you will not fix the edge-scroll. Even if I cannot enjoy the benefits of a "fixed" galciv2, I can at least rest in peace knowing the edge-scroll issue has been resolved.
I don't know if that's on the list. Until your post, I'd never heard of it. In either case, you won't be able to play becaus

There won't be further beta updates to the gameplay itself. Just connectivity updates. The released version will have the gameplay updates (just a few weeks away).
You have 24 hours to fix this edge-scrolling issue before I start ragin' in the offical Galciv forums.
Slurple: Please understand that in 24 hours the men will have already taken you away to a secure, undisclosed location. There you will be held with the people who protest the difficulty in opening game boxes, the people who file lawsuits because EULAs aren't on the ouside of the box, and of course anyone else who considers a dead spot in edge scrolling on a gam
Brad, Galciv 2 is currently broke. There is a small portion of the screen that does not allow you to "edge-scroll." In TA it is on the top of the screen where it reads "Menu." You can move the mouse anywhere else on the edge of the screen and it will scroll. Please fix this, until then, game is broken.
Exactly, GalCiv 2 is totally broke. I mean, heck, if there was even a single pixel on the screen that didn't handle edge scrolling for the 1% of the user base tha

Most RTS's are client/server with some peer functionality. Warcraft 3 is hybrid (client/server in connections with some data peer to peer), Starcraft is mostly client/server, Sins of a Solar Empire is purely client/server, CoH is client server, and on and on. Demigod is pure peer-to-peer. You can't have a "dedicated" server because there is no "server" in the game in the first place.
Quoting Frogboy, reply 7My view is that Generals should have various money bonuses. Care to be less vague?
Sure. In the short-term, I think the quickest/easiest way to make Generals more competitive would be to start Generals off with more gold so that they can choose to buy more items OR choose to buy minions. How much gold would need to be played around with. I also think their

We plan on 2 free Demigods being released AFTER the game is generally available. What those 2 Demigods will be like will be heavily dependent on what players are looking for. Beyond that, it's all based on how well the game sells.
even with stardock's whole "gamer's rights" spiel i know money is still a high priority for them. people don't realize that constant patches based on community input is a goldmine for success. i can see them making a 30 dollar expansion pack with some extra items/maps/demigods and then leaving the players to figuring out the best builds and demigods and then its just rinse and repeat until the game gets stale. i hope they prove me wrong
</p
......Demigod will have a very promising start (like countles good games before), but regular Playerbase will fall drastically after a few Months cause they get bored of the game cause of minor depth (like exactly those countles good games before). Since it positioned itself pretty clever as a "Next-Gen-Dota" (thats the way the majority of people look at it) the game will sell good enough to at least even the productioncosts. One expansion will come out 6-8 Months after
Wow Frogboy. That'd break the game so bad. If that was patched in, say, tomorrow, Generals would be far better than Assassins if it weren't for rook and TB being rather broken. But they'd probably be as good as Rook and TB, still, maybe even better depending on the bonus.
WOW. You mean if generals got 1 gold more than Assassins it would break the game so bad? I didn't realize that the integrity of the game was so fragile. I love how some people,
