Just as a reminder here, folks, BETA 1 of Demigod is an engine test. It is to see how well it works on a wider variety of hardware configurations. For instance, my default nVidia 7950 drivers that came with Vista did not work right with the game. In addition, we can discover any and all Impulse problems people have with installing the game. Once in the game, the strategic features and content have been severely curtailed and a lot of visual content
We're not talking about campaign mode just yet. What are we talking about? I really want to ask some questions that get answers, the beta's making me curious.
Our plan is not to have a set campaign but rather quests for each Demigod for them to ascend.

The first beta won't shut people up. :) It wouldn't shut me up anyway since it's an engine test. What we will want to hear from beta testers are things they think the game needs to be really good. What I find painful is feedback that comes from without playing the game. We're totally all over ideas on adding new spells, abilities, items, equipment, etc. What we're not all over is adds tons of derivative demigods to the game purely for the sake of having a big numbe

I find that dxdiag has most of the data you'd want. Just run dxdiag from a command prompt.
If you're going quality > quantity the current skill trees need to be doubled/tripled to make up for the lack of pure quantity of demigods. That way each demigod can be played in more ways to make up for the lack of numbers. Honestly, I prefer each demigod be more diverse than having pure numbers but looking at the current skill lists they are extremely lacking. I'd like to at least see skill lists nearing diablo 2 if we're only getting 8 demigods. Before someone says items, no, the

The current plan is get beta 1 out near the end of the week. Beta 1 is the engine test. It is not designed to be "fun". You will be able to play it on the LAN (either against other people on the LAN or agaisnt AI players). If you want to play people over the Internet, we recommend installing Hamachi. We're not officially supporting Hamachi but it should work. The rook, regulus, and the Torch Bearer are the 3 Demigods we are inclu

I don't have a problem with DirectX 10 from a technical point of view but it does have a problem from a market perspective -- it doesn't give enough benefit to justify focusing develoment on it when only a tiny TINY % of the user base can use it. I've yet to meet a game develoepr that has said "Wow, I'm so glad we supported DirectX 10."

Indeed, we brainstorm new items all the time and we imagine beta testers will be heavily involved as well.

The tinker, firelord and alchemist were all added for free. http://www.battle.net/war3/neutral/ Not to mention the game shipped with 12, 9 were added in expansions, on top of a complete RTS game with 4 factions, about 50-60 playable units, 50+ items, hundreds of neutral units, a multiplayer that received many patches for fixes and balance, a map editor that can make nearly full-fledged games (DotA, Footmen Frenzy, Tower D, etc.) and a l
I sure hope so, Id imagine that more demigods would be added just like PATCHES, it would really be a cheap move to sell them. if 500,000 copies are sold... the companiy makes $2,500,000 thats a lot of money... even if it costs $10 per disc they still get $2,000,000... and that more then covers any cost paid to make the game! For example SOaSE has sold 500,000 copies, and IMO the campaign/storyline they gave is crappy, all it is is skrimish.
The budget of Demigod fa
There has to be either a decent amount of demigods (I'd say 15ish) or the demigods we're getting have to be more in-depth and versatile in skill choices. I'd think new abilities are easier to add in than entire new demigods, so this shouldn't be hard.
Our plan is to have a lot of equipment and items. What I don't think some people realize about Dota is that it was limited by the WC engine for items (some people probably know about that). That's why there's all those buildings you have to go to. So the best way to mix things up was to have lots of heroes intead. Demigod, by contrast, doesn't have a limit on the # of items we can have and equipment and items are going to be a crucial element to the game to provide lots of different strategies in a given si
On the fact that a demigod is an extremely unique game entity? Give me a break, of the three demigods I played there were 3 click to hit nukes, that did damage to one target, half of regulus's abilities were mines, and the other two (an aoe and a nuke) were very simple as well as his passives" increased range and maim? seen that. If you want unique abilities look at maps like AotZ, DoE (http://forum.valor-zeal.org/), or HoSK (http://www.hoskmap.com/), a lot of those abilities are more
In a game with 5 v 5 games and such distinctive characters, 8 doesn't feel like that many, especially compared with something like DotA. I understand the amount of work that goes in, but these make it feel chintzy,
So when you play Starcraft does it feel chintzy in a 5 on 5 game that there's only 3 choices of who to play as? I think some of you are taking the Dota comparisons a little too far. If we wanted to, we could crank out 100 Demigods by just

Right now, and this is subject to change, Generals have minions, Assassins don't. It's a bit of a different experience based on who you play as.
