AMMs are my favorite, too, but a Death Knight in a starbase-boosted system can hold the line until you finish the Dreadnought tech. Personally, on Masochistic, I am *always* at least 1 full ship tech behind (battleship tech achieved *after* I've been attacked by Dreads). I just encountered an AI AMM in my last game (#21), used to blow up my new avatar. Could be because it is the first time I actually had a powerful AI whittled down... I have never taken out an Overlord with a

I don't care if we've relocated to Tortuga.... Threadzilla must not die! :)
Hey, why don't we have a recruitment poster over in the "what's an Empire" sticky thread?
Unacceptable, 3 days without a post! 27k MilVic.... Got to actually *use* Overlords in combat! Woot! Especially Overlords boosted by 2 full military starbases (Modules, not resources)! Conquer through attrition -> "store" constructors until 2 warships are ready, move them into the target sector and drop full military loadouts (starting with Interdiction and Repair), let the warships pound the defending assaults into smithereens, bring in da troops, defend new planet as the enem
I got my first space pirate event where I actually saw the pirate ships. I have gotten the even maybe 2 times before; this is the first time I ever saw them, though. They had 3 ships (frigates, i think), appeared next to a starbase, a freighter, and a world. My "local police" (1 DN, 1 Ranger, 1 BattleHammer) salied forth, eliminated them with no damage, and called it a day.
(Hypocrisy comment arose from the idea of a Republic Empire. An Empire implies an Emperor, someone with extreme and absolute authority... something a Republic would not have. The Old REPUBLIC was removed by Palpatine in favor of his EMPIRE, for example!)
Whoo hoo! Didn't even see the promotion... What causes that? And how do I get to be "Very Evil"? Chaotic Evil is certainly mire piratical, and the way I play; I'm just curious. (Anyone else notice the hypocrisy of the Jedi? "Jedi Republic... EMPIRE"? ;) )
I have played with both 25% luck (pick) and 50% luck (Universalists and pick). Usually I find Rangers, twards trhe end of the game, when enemy Dreadnoughts and Rangers are already present. I have never found a Ranger *early* in the game, but I did once acquire a single ranger when the opposing forces had battleships and death knights. Only reason I survived that game, in fact.... even more so, that game is also when I found *scads* of rangers! One (exactly one) was a Precursor random event ra
Oh well... WE'll keep her alive anyway! I posted a 19k maso cultural... Got my 20-games medal, yay! :D Couldn't quite pull off the military victory this time... I didn't have avatar tech yet, but the Altarians had 2 overlords already in play!
Hey Pontius, how are you surviving a Huge Masochistic? I can barely survive the Tiny's, thanks to being able to slip in to the end of an invasion...
I logged another 21k maso tiny. Probably could have been more, but I want to at least log *1* alliance victory. My "ally" (the Arceans) only had 1 world, but they did find the precursor "slowly win" thingy - after we allied! They were still losers, though, and kept dragging me into wars with I was entirely prepared for. At least i was able to guarrantee some trade income at the end. Few comments/highlights: Have I mentioned how much I like Anti-matter missiles? Creativity = worth
I already focus on morale. I like to keep it at about 90-92%. I hadn't thought about the fact that population growth itself will harm morale.... And I haven't tried counter-destabilizing. But that seems even more likely to lure me into a war I really (literally!) can't afford...
Still tryin' to boost our score... took it easy with a Painful (actually, two painfuls... see my new thread about destabilization), now I'll go back to a MasoTiny to rack up a score. Hmm... Alliance Victory... never had one of those. Maybe it's my deodorant? ;)
I was playing what I thought was a pretty good game (Class 19 Earth, with a class 26 Saturn!) when I noticed my morale was steadily dropping. Thinking it was merely my repressive policies (thoroughly evil), I lowered tazes and went about my business. But it kept dropping. Then my slow-as-molasses spies report the Altarians are destablizing me. And the Arceans. And the Torians. Soon enough, I have a morale level of 61% with *0* tax rate, and my empire is colapsing from lack of money! (The
I like Tiny maps... get right into the action, everybody is next to everybody, lots of interaction. Closed off another Tiny Maso for 26K yesterday. It was a very close one, down to me and the Drengin at the end. the Yor tried to surrender to me, but actually died in the same round. I started fielding Dreadnoughts, and a turn or two later the Dregin started fielding Avatars! Luckily, Anti-matter missiles (which I've never used before) have a really good chance of taking out an Avatar
Last game, I had just managed to defeat enough Drengin ships (thank you, Anti-matter missile developer!) to get them to make peace with me (with 4 trade goods as incentive) -- Good thing, since I was proud of my new dreadnoughts, and the Drengin were starting to field Avatars! I quickly freighter'd them up, establishing 8 trade routes. Started shipping Combat Transports across the map, through Drengin space, to take out the dying Torians.... Diplomatic f***-up event, the Drengin decla
KitWarrior, you just gave me a new target to shoot for.... I want a 20-game medal too! :)
That's more like it... logged a 26k masochistic tiny :HOT:
Stupid scoring rules. I stuck it out in a careuflly bi-partisan universe to get a Tech win instead of my usual Culture win... and in a crippling Medium, got less that I did for a Tiny or a Small!! I should have just taken my Excaliburs and gone on a rampage! Grr... (Lucky trait got me 2 Rangers when I needed them, then a couple more, then *7* in th ened game when they were horribly obsolete!)
I played a Tiny Crippling game and lost. Was trying to man enough to submit the loss (points is points!), but MEtaverse refused to accept it. Apparently, tales of Pirates and G.R.O.S.S. members losing just aren't believed! :D (Was an interesting game, too, with a rookie mistake. Started in a corner with a Class 17 world, the Alexians in my system, a Research resource in my system, an economic resource just south, and a military resource just east. Rookie mistake: grabbed all three
Well, I finally tried out a game on 1.11... Only Painful, and got a clear lead with 4 yellows in my corner of the map, and everyone else in the opposite corner fighting for position. "Accidentally" went to war with my main "ally" the Torians when I wiped out the Altarians in a single assault (seems they found some ancient artifact that published bad prophecies). Ooops ;) Suddenly 80% of their worlds were visited by Dreadnought Quads and Transports (gotta like 48 to 2 odds!!!), and teh last w
What a sad sight to have to scroll down the Forum page to find the mighty Threadzilla! Haven't been able to post my last game due to modem problems (:( And, I admit, haven't played for several months due to playing ToEE and now IWD2. Oh yeah, and the whole 5-week-old newborn-needs-attention thing that restricts my game time to, oh, about 15 minutes in the morning when I am the only one wawk in the house! I will come back, I swear! I'm still here! don't surrender G.R.O.S.S.
Finished a Painful Large. Only achieved evil in the last 14 months of the game -- not enough alignment events. Couple funny things... 1) The Fundamentalists showed up *way* early in the game and destroyed the Drengin and Yor long beofre I ever got near their territories. Never met 'em. The Arceans only had 1 world when I found them, and I didn't let them keep it! 2) About 80 turns after I absorbed the Torians :d ... a message popped up saying a bloody revolution had occured, and
I agree with von Schmidt. Later game minors are just candy for whatever race can get to them first. In my recent Maso game, it was a quick source of 10k credits from a 4-turn "deal" for techs he didn't have... which coinceidentally was also how long it took one of my transports to get to their world. No more minor, I get a new colony. Not much of an impact on the game.
I also thank you for the maso tutorial... back on page 17 or so, where I started reading after a 5 month hiatus. Populists, Diplo 60, Econ 10, Research 10.... Let the others fight things out, paid off the AI's every few months with influence points and good-for-them tech deals, contantly played catch-up. Then, when the Drengin were being exterminated... three good techs to the Altarians, thanks for the fully-loaded Combat Transport, whoops, thanks fo rthe Drengin world too! Rinse, Lather, rep
